Sovereign Jessica Fox wins the C1 women final, Herzog silver, Fišerová bronze
Jessica Fox from Australia literally won far away in front of the rest of the starting field in the C1 women competition. She was the only one of the top ten to show a clean race, German Herzog finished almost five seconds behind, and Tereza Fišerová, a home racer, finally wins bronze. Viktoria Us fought a lot with the track at the beginning and did not repeat the calm ride from the previous run. She scored four mistakes, lost a lot of time. One mistake was made by the Frenchwoman Angela Hugo.
On the contrary, a significant improvement was demonstrated by Jessica Fox, who this time literally flew over the course and demonstrated the ride from another world. She started the track third in the order, led by eight seconds in the second split and based on the lead time on the value of 105.15 s thanks to a clean ride.
The German Elena Apel was in trouble. She immediately touched three gates, but mainly got stuck at gate no. 6, the wave pushed her out of the gate and even spent a while under water. She got the unpopular fifty for not passing. The leader of the Australian team was not endangered even by Polish canoeist Stach, who made mistakes in the middle passage, where she had to return to the originally missed gate, and this only underlined her loss of time. Even her sister was not imitated by Noemie Fox, who had big problems on gate 11, which she did not pass properly and was another competitor who received a 50-second penalty.
The German Andrea Herzog approached the medal position; she drove cleanly almost to the end. She made a mistake only on gate 24. Austrian Nadine Weratschnig experienced great suffering, found herself under water at the gate number 3 and the penalty was born. She then added another fifty on the sixth gate, which she completely missed due to a bad track.
Tereza Fišerová went home on the track as the penultimate. She lost slightly to Fox, but one touch on gate 17 increased the time loss and in the finish she was behind Herzog. Only Mallory Franklin could decide on the distribution of medals. She rode similarly to the Czech paddler with a slight loss of time in the lead, but did not avoid a mistake on gate 18, where she stayed a lot, and ended up just below the podium at the finish.
The winner in the category of women canoeists was Jessica Foxová, the second is Andrea Herzog from Germany, the bronze remains in the Czech Republic thanks to Tereza Fišerová.
„I am definitely very happy to come away with two medals this weekend. It is my first race in a long time. It was all about seeing where we are, compete to other girls on the international course. It was hard race today. I am just really happy to put down a good run,“ said Fox.
Herzog stated: „I was pretty happy with my semifinal run, because the course was pretty hard, mentally and physically. So I was pretty happy to do such a good run again. And now it´s silver medal, that´s really great. The course is very hard, there were no breaks, so you have to do this move and then directly to the next move, no break.“
Fišerová added: “In the finish, I thought that I will finish fourth because there was still Mallory on the start but now, I am even happier to win a medal. I prefer tough tracks so I was OK with this one. But I felt some nervousity in stomach so I have to work on that,” said Fišerová.
