Pavelková won the first kayak single women (K1W) heats
Irena Pavelková (CZE) presented herself with faultless, consummate ride. She was the first to overcome the one hundred second limit with a time 97.39. After her, the only one that reached this limit was Štěpánka Hilgertové (CZE) with a time 99.29. The third place occupies Melanie Pfeifer(GER), who clocked 100.24. Favoured Jana Dukátová (SVK) ended up just one hundreth after the German competiter.

Another Czech contestant that definitely should be mentioned thanks to her appealing achievement, is Eva Ornstová. Though mounted as 40th she placed herself among the 12 fastest women competitors with a time 102.88 (that includes the two seconds penalty).
