The canoe slalom season peaks in Prague – Troja. New European champions will be crowned in two weeks
The international canoe slalom peak of the season for many competitors will be the European canoe slalom championships in Prague, which will host the event already after two years. Originally cancelled championships in London last spring is going to be replaced on Troja artificial slalom course on 18 – 20 September 2020. The complete Czech team will face the top competitors from all over Europe.
Our best kayakers Jiří Prskavec and Kateřina Kudějová already have the Olympic ticket in their pockets. But the European medals are also a big motivation for experienced Czech paddlers. “The European champs are a peak of the season for me this year and that is also the main point of my preparation this year. However, the feeling on the training after the successful Tokyo selection is much better for me now,“ said Kudějová about the championships which could not be organised without the help of the main partners headed by the general partner ČEZ Group and the main partner – Uniqa insurance company.
Also the next Olympic questions will be answered in Prague: Which canoeists will get the spot in the Czech Olympic team for Tokyo? Tereza Fišerová is the main leader among women together with Gabriela Satková. The men´s category is even tighter with Lukáš Rohan on the leading position after the Czech Cup competitions. But also Vojtěch Heger and Václav Chaloupka still have the chance to succeed. The last European titles will be defended by Czech kayakers Amálie Hilgertová and young dad Vít Přindiš.
“It is a great honour for us that major medals will be distributed in Prague – Troja again. Despite the fact that we are still facing this hard time, we try to give 100 percent of our effort to prepare the best conditions for all championships participants. Therefore, it is even bigger challenge than ever before,” said the president of the local organising committee Jiří Rohan. The event will be held with the financial support of the Capital city of Prague and the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic.
The entrance to the area will be allowed to all accredited persons (competitors, accompanying persons, organisers) as well as VIP guests, contracting parties and next invited persons. “We invite all fans to watch the TV live stream on the Czech TV Sport on Saturday and Sunday. We will try to publish all interesting information and news from the event via our website and our social networks so that the fans will not miss the tipycal atmosphere in Prague – Troja in spite of the recent limitations,” adds Jiří Rohan who explains the situation with the compulsory visitors’ limitations. So the ticket sales will not start this year.
The ECA European Canoe Slalom Championships in Prague – Troja will be held on 18 – 20 September 2020, when the championships start with the qualifications scheduled on 18 Sept 9:30 AM.
The medals will be distributed after the finals on Saturday 12:20 for the best C1 Women and K1 men category. On Sunday, the final with the best K1 women and C1 men will start at 12:05.
The favourite Paddleride, which is the event for all the friends of canoe slalom on the various types of boats with paddles from Troja to the Prague city center, will start already on Sunday 13 september at 13:00.
